Planting the seed of the Tree of Knowledge

Ever since the first photographic shoots of my sculptures, I have believed - firmly - that galleries and/or studios are not the right place for my work and that I needed to find a way to show it outside, where it came from.

But many of my sculptures are now rather delicate - once the wood has dried out, even when treated, it deteriorates when left outside. So the trick was to display it in a natural setting without leaving it there, which meant taking it out to and photographing it in a variety of natural settings.

I made my first serious attempt at this recently and am pleased with the result. The subject was the Tree of Knowledge, the original idea for which came from my son. Being extremely fragile, this may be the only time the sculpture escapes into the great outdoors, so let’s hope the end justifies the means.
